Final Year Project

Project Title

Adhoori Kahaniyaan - Women in Art

Description

Adhoori Kahaniyaan is a documentation of the unheard stories of women artists from the urban and suburban areas in Karachi. This will highlight not just the gender hierarchy in the so-called “accessible and open” creative sector but also the many reasons; social and personal which hinder the growth opportunities for women in art. It revolves around the idea of there being an artistic genius and how has that worked for the different women interviewed. It will also put light on the anxieties and struggles of women artists that lead to lesser growth and opportunities compared to their male counterparts. The stories are representative of different journeys that all these women have taken before and after embarking on their lives as women artists, the problems, obstacles, or hurdles (if any) that they faced, how some of them overcame those and some did not.
